What Are We Even About?
That is a fair question.
The name is Undead Clothing Co. The artwork is dark. There are skulls, graves, crosses, serpents, blood, death, warfare, and imagery that probably does not look much like the average Christian clothing brand.
That is intentional.
Because Christianity is not a story about becoming a slightly nicer version of yourself.
It is a story about death and resurrection.
Dead to Sin. Alive to God.
At the center of Undead Clothing Co. is Romans 6:
“Present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life.”
That is where the idea of Undeath comes from.
Not zombies.
Not glorifying death.
Not darkness for the sake of looking edgy.
It is the picture of someone who was spiritually dead and has been made alive through Jesus Christ.
The old man dies.
The chains break.
The grave opens.
And what comes out is not the same thing that went in.
That is what we mean when we say:
Consider yourselves alive from the dead.
Christianity Is Not Self-Improvement
A lot of modern culture is built around finding yourself, trusting yourself, following your heart, protecting your ego, and becoming the person you always wanted to be.
Jesus said something radically different.
Deny yourself. Take up your cross. Follow Me.
That's not self-help.
That's surrender.
Following Christ means there are things in us that need to die: pride, lust, greed, bitterness, rebellion, selfishness, and the endless human obsession with placing ourselves on the throne.
The cross was never a piece of jewelry to the people who first heard Jesus speak about it.
It was an instrument of execution.
So when we create something like Die to Thyself, the message is not just metaphorical decoration.
It means exactly what it says.
The Christian life is not about decorating the old man.
It is about putting him to death.
Why Does the Art Look So Dark?
Because Scripture is dark.
There are graves.
Bones.
Blood.
Demons.
Serpents.
War.
Judgment.
Martyrdom.
Death.
And right in the middle of all of it stands a blood-covered cross and an empty tomb.
Christianity does not pretend darkness does not exist.
It declares that darkness does not win.
That distinction matters.
Our designs may use imagery associated with death, but death is never the victor.
The serpent is crushed.
The grave is emptied.
Satan is rebuked.
Death is unthroned
The flesh is crucified.
The dead are raised.
Darkness meets the Light and cannot overcome it.
That is the point.
The Music and the Clothing Are Connected
A lot of our designs are also tied directly to our music.
Songs become shirts.
Lyrics become images.
Themes become symbols you can wear.
A design like Crucified comes from a song centered on following Christ even when obedience costs everything. It points toward Christ's crucifixion and the believers throughout history who refused to deny Him even when faced with persecution and death.
Get Behind Me Satan comes from another uncomfortable biblical moment.
Peter loved Jesus, but when Jesus spoke about His coming suffering and death, Peter tried to correct Him.
Jesus answered:
“Get behind Me, Satan.”
Peter thought he knew what should happen better than God did.
Human beings have been repeating that mistake ever since.
That design is not simply about yelling at the devil.
It is a warning against placing our own reasoning, desires, and plans above the will of God.
Sometimes the most dangerous rebellion does not look like hatred of God.
Sometimes it looks like telling God we have a better idea.
We Are Not Making Christian Merch Because Christianity Is Trendy
It isn't.
Not if you actually mean it.
Biblical Christianity confronts practically everything human beings naturally want to protect: our pride, our autonomy, our appetites, our reputation, our comfort, and our illusion that we belong to ourselves.
We do not want to slap a cross onto whatever happens to be fashionable and call it Christian clothing.
The design should mean something.
The words should mean something.
The Scripture behind them should mean something.
If a shirt starts a conversation, good.
If somebody recognizes the passage behind it, even better.
If it forces someone to ask what in the world Undead Clothing Co. means, then the name has already done its job.
This Is Undead Clothing Co.
We are about death.
And resurrection.
The death of the old man.
The death of pride.
The death of slavery to sin.
The death of the idea that we are our own gods.
And then life.
Real life.
Life bought by Christ.
Life pulled out of the grave.
Life that belongs to Him.
Our clothing is dark because the world is dark.
Our message is not.
Die to yourself.
Take up your cross.
Follow Christ.
Stand against darkness.
Consider yourself alive from the dead.
That is what Undead Clothing Co. is about.
" I’d love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything’s OK,
But I’ll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
‘Till things are brighter, I’m the Man In Black " - Johnny Cash
